Tamara Khupkhi describes her Kukhlianka

"When I sew a kukhlianka (fur coat), I create the circular patterns from fabric threads. I also use longer neck hairs from the reindeer. I take summer furs, the skins of which I dye on the inside with alder bark if it is going to be a kukhlianka. I rub these furs with wet alder wood to soften them, or I also use urine infusion. Later, I dye them with alder bark. They turn a nice red, and I let them dry.

Then I begin to cut out the kukhlianka. For the hem of the kukhlianka, I sew on beads. I also decorate the boots and hats like this to make them look nice. I also use the fur of wolverine, otter, and mink. Sometimes I also sew kukhlianki on request, which the deceased wear at their funeral."
