Konstantin Avilov explains the reindeer herder’s belt

"The whetstone and the small pouch for it. And here you can see a sewing needle set. We always have to carry a needle with us, because now and then a button falls off or a hole needs to be sewn up. These are threads made from the tendons of the reindeer's back. The knife handle is made from snow sheep horn. You have to protect your hands and make sure it doesn’t slip. And it doesn’t fall out of its holder. You always have to carry such a knife with you when working with reindeer or horses – sometimes the harness or the bridle breaks."
