Fedor Uvachan comments on the trap shown here

“In our region, I have never seen traps like this. They haven’t been made here for a long time. This is a davok (from Russian davit’ – ‘to press’), based on the principle of standard traps, but using a bow. The trap is constructed in such a way that an arrow, attached to a string, is held under tension by the bow and then released by a trigger mechanism. Most likely, bait was placed where there is a passage in the trap. The bait was either tied to a rope or otherwise connected to the trigger. When a sable pulled on the bait, the trap was triggered, and the arrow pressed down on the animal.” (Video in progress)
