Elena Mironova describes how gloves are made and used

Elena Mironova describes the production and use of traditional gloves made from sheep, horse, and reindeer hides. The hides are first soaked in water and dried, and during the tanning process they are rubbed with sour cream to make them softer. The gloves are then sewn from the partially dried hides. They are worn both in summer, for example when gathering firewood, willow branches, and hay, and in winter, when travelling with reindeer, as well as for hunting and fishing. They are also said to have been used in the past for gathering nettles.
