Alla Kechgichaivina explains the furs used in the coat
“And here we have a piece of dog fur, and this here is snow sheep fur. And this is mink, which also provides a strong fur. Here you can see the spring fur from a reindeer, and this hem is also made of reindeer fur. Skins without fur are also used. To prepare those, the hides are soaked after removing the hair. Finally, I also make a belt. I try to sew neatly, so one can be well dressed when visiting others. All our ancestors used to sew coats like this. When there is severe frost, you can travel well with it on a dog sled or a reindeer sled.”
