Alla Kechgichaivina demonstrates the use of a hide scraper
"This is how they do it when they are with the herd. They scrape the remnants of meat from the reindeer hide. In this way, the underside of the hide is cleaned. Then it is softened. So you scrape again to soften the leather. And when it becomes even softer, you change the scraper blade and use a different one. Now, when you hold it in your hands, you can see how soft the leather has become."
