Even

[Self-designation эвэсэл] The Evens are a Tungusic people who are widespread across large parts of Eastern Siberia. They migrated to Kamchatka from the north between 1830 and 1840, where they settled in the middle of the peninsula. Originally hunters, they used reindeer for transportation purposes. In the last century, they developed reindeer husbandry from this, which they have since made their main livelihood. Nowadays, Evens in Kamchatka live in the settlements of Esso and Anavgaj in Bystrinsky District in the central part of Kamchatka. From there, they follow their usual activities in the mountains to the west and along the Icha River. Other Even groups live in the northernmost part of Kamchatka, mainly in the settlements of Chailino and Achaivaiam.

Тransport

The Evenki use dugout canoes on rivers, which are made by hollowing out poplar trunks with special axes. In the past, reindeer were used for transport. Cargo bags were attached to special saddles, ensuring that the weight was evenly distributed on both sides. Today, transport during the summer migration is mostly carried out by horses and in winter by snowmobiles.

Clothing

The clothing of the Even people in Kamchatka corresponds in style and ornamentation to the traditions of the Tungus peoples. It therefore differs significantly from the clothing and decorative art of other peoples in Kamchatka. Unlike the Koryak kuchljanka, the Even parka is open at the front, revealing the richly decorated apron worn underneath. Various seamstresses from Esso and Anavgaj demonstrate and explain fur processing, dyeing techniques, sewing techniques, the manufacture of women's clothing, boots and headgear, and various ornaments.
