Making a dugout canoe

"To build dugout canoes, people used special axes with curved blades. Today, in Kovran, there are no more hollowed-out dugout boats. But from the stories of the elders, I know that these boats were once a valuable means of transport. You could fish from them in the river. The dugout canoe is light and easy to handle – even capable of going upstream against the current. My grandfather told me that they even ventured out onto the sea in these canoes. But fishing at sea was only possible when the weather was calm. If the waves grew larger, it became dangerous and the boat could capsize. Dugouts were not only used for fishing, but also for transporting goods – hay, food supplies, and large amounts of caught fish. For carrying cargo, two canoes would be joined together and used as a pair."
